Michigan Continuing Education Requirements

Michigan Administrative Rule 339.15503 Continuing Education Reporting Requirements

  1. The Michigan Occupational Code and administrative rules requires every architect to complete the required number of continuing education hours during the 2-year renewal period. In accordance with Michigan Rule 339.155503, a licensee who holds a license for more than 12 months, but less than 24 months from the date of initial licensure shall obtain 12 hours of continuing education for the first renewal period. A licensee who holds a license for 24 months or more from the date of initial licensure shall obtain 24 hours of continuing education for the renewal period. Continuing education hours shall be relevant to the practice of architecture, and shall contain elements that will enhance the public’s health, safety, and welfare (HSW).
     
  2. The continuing education requirements apply to every architect renewing a license who has been licensed during the 2-year renewal period. The requirements apply whether or not the architect is actively engaged in the practice of architecture. No one is exempt from this requirement. Each architect is required to accumulate 24 hours of continuing education in HSW activities that are relevant to the practice of architecture, during the 2- year renewal period.

Every architect who is renewing his/her license should retain records documenting the completion of continuing education. Those documents must be retained for 4 years from the date of applying for license renewal.
