Colorado State Electrical Board Continuing Education Requirements

Before renewing, all Colorado-licensed Residential Wireman, Journeyman, and Master Electricians must complete 24 hours of continuing education. Renewal is September 30th of each NEC code year (currently 9/30/2023).

Pursuant to Board Rules 11.3.4 and 11.3.5, continuing education hours must be selected from among the Core Competencies below in any combination, except that a minimum of four (4) continuing education hours must be related to National Electrical Code changes. In addition, a maximum of four (4) hours may be related to safety training.

  • Grounding and Bonding
  • National Electrical Code changes (four hours minimum required)
  • Wiring methods
  • Theory and calculations
  • Safety related to the electrical industry (four hours maximum)

Licensees are responsible for maintaining their own CE documentation; CE providers/vendors do not supply the Board with CE completion records. Please retain all copies of your completed course certificates for seven (7) years, in the event you are selected for an audit.
