Colorado Section 12-25-315.5, C.R.S and Board Rule 4.9.3.1.2 Continuing Education Reporting Requirements

In accordance with section 12-25-315.5, C.R.S., licensed architects are required to maintain continuing education to renew a license every 24 months (biennially).

Architects shall complete a minimum of 12 Continuing Education Hours (CEH) during each calendar year in health, safety, and welfare (HSW) subjects AND participate in a process or procedure that demonstrates whether the architect retained the material presented in the continuing education activity in order to renew a license to practice architecture in Colorado.

A process or procedure that demonstrates whether the architect retained the material presented in the CE activity is required in order for the architect to earn CEHs. A process or procedure that demonstrates retention may be any form of evaluation or assessment, such as:
  • An examination, quiz, or test given at the conclusion of a presentation, lecture, online course, etc.; or,
  • A structured report process in a format defined by the Board. The CE Structured Report form may be downloaded at www.colorado.gov/dora/AES_CE.

When renewing their license in an active status, licensees will attest that either they are in compliance with CE requirements and that they have completed 12 CEH in each calendar year, or they are exempt from CE requirements. Audits of compliance will be conducted by the Board after each renewal period ends.

Colorado Continuing Education Record Maintenance and Verification

All CEH should have documentation. Per Board Rule 4.9.3.1.2.14, the documentation shall be maintained by the architect for 6 years from the date of award.
