South Carolina Administrative Code Chapter 49-602.A Continuing Professional Competency Requirements

  1. Biennial renewals run from July 1 to June 30 of even numbered years.
  2. Each licensee is required to obtain 30 Professional Development Hour (PDH) units each biennial renewal period.
  3. If a licensee exceeds the requirements in any renewal period, a maximum of 15 PDH units may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period

South Carolina Administrative Code Chapter 49-605.A Continuing Professional Competency Record Maintenance and Verification

  1. The responsibility for maintaining records used to support credits claimed is that of the licensee.
  2. These records must be maintained for a minimum period of three years during which copies may be requested by the Board for audit verification purposes.

General


What are the continuing education requirements for the 2022 renewal?
Each licensee is required to obtain at least 30 hours between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2022.

What if I exceed the 30-hour requirement for continuing education in this period of time?
A maximum of 15 hours may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period.

Is the XYZ class that I took from XYZ Continuing Education Company approved by the Board?
The Board does not pre-approve courses or sponsoring organizations. Continuing professional competency that enhances the professional attributes of the licensee will be considered by the Board.

Any qualifying course or activity with a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee’s field of practice will be considered by the Board. Courses accepted by other states that meet the criteria of the SC Board will be generally accepted for credit. Should a course credit be denied, the licensee will be allowed a twelve month period to make up deficiencies.

Can I contact the Board to find out how many continuing education credits or carry-over credits I have on record?
No. It is your responsibility to maintain records used to support credits you claimed
