Course Description


This course is part of a series of courses on the Conflict-Free Home Remodeling Process written by Stephen Gidus. In this course the learner will explore the Construction preparation step which includes Project Setup and Protection, Demolition, General Conditions, and elements of the Project Environment. The learner will complete this course with a full understanding of why and what goes into protecting the homeowner and himself before the construction phase begins.



Course Objectives


Lesson 1 Objectives

Upon successful completion of this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify and express the purpose of the Project Setup
  • Detail activities during Interior and Exterior Preparation
  • List several work signs that are displayed during a remodeling project
  • Explain what transpires and/or is safeguarded during Interior & Exterior Project Preparation
  • State items to be considered in the area of Project Protection
     

Lesson 2 Objectives

Upon successful completion of this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe key points in Demolition
  • Name key considerations in site preparation
  • Define what is meant by structural building components in the home
  • Discuss different types of thermal and moisture barriers and considerations with each
  • Provide examples of mechanical systems within the home
  • List considerations that go with exterior finishes


Lesson 3 Objectives

Upon successful completion of this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe General Conditions and what it means in the REMODology process
  • Explain how General Conditions may save the remodeler money overall
  • Give examples of General Conditions clauses and why they are so important to the remodeler
  • Relate why homeowners sometimes misunderstand the term "overhead"


Lesson 4 Objectives

Upon successful completion of this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss items in the Project Environment portion of the General Conditions section of Remodology
  • List considerations connected to construction-related debris material
  • Describe how Driveway and Sidewalk Cracks should be addressed by the remodeler


Instructor Bio


Bonnie PrinseBonnie Prinse

Ms. Prinse holds a BS Degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and has pursued master degree studies in Aquatic Zoology at the University of South Florida. She has written scientific portions of impact statements for wetland/upland land delineation, endangered species studies, and water quality testing while employed with a civil engineering and architectural firm in Tampa, FL. Her experience in environmental studies and new construction lend itself to documentary film making, particularly environmental stories that have taken her to the Amazon in Peru and to Costa Rica. Most recently her involvement with earthen construction projects led to a video production showcasing the benefits of building “green.”
