Course Description
This interactive, distance learning course is designed to give the student an overview of roof types and materials in today's world which lend themselves to being used in a "cool roof". Roofing materials and colors impact how buildings -- and even entire cities -- handle heating and cooling. Construction materials and application available today are discussed as well as a look into the future with products that show promise in performance and sustainability.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of cool roof construction and be able to:
- Explain the various roofing materials available and how they are used in cool roof construction
- Recognize roofing materials and their environmental impact to the planet either through their manufacture or use
- Discuss new construction materials in current research and development
- Understand the importance of applying specific roof systems in hot and often, humid, climates
