Course Description

Candidates beginning to undertake the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE) are facing a tremendous task, requiring a vast amount of preparation. They will be taking six separate tests in various areas of knowledge, intended to determine their competency to offer architectural services, while still protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Many candidates will not successful pass all six division tests, on their first try.

This course is intended to give those candidates advance notice and resources regarding the subject areas from which questions and problems will be drawn. Forewarned is forearmed. At the very least, what follows should help them focus and strategize their time spent in preparation for the tests. That knowledge should also help ease some anxiety, when contemplating what lies ahead. As is mentioned in the section on exam tips.

You are better prepared than you realize.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the six divisions of the ARE and how each is structured
  • Discuss how the six divisions for the ARE break down into additional subject areas, with their subsequent objectives
  • Define the types of questions which will be presented and how correct responses for each are determined
  • Identify common abbreviations and common units of measure expected to be encountered
  • Determine the logistics and procedures involved in registering for, and taking the exams
  • Examine subject areas expected to be encountered in each of the six test divisions
