Course Description

When an agreement is signed to provide architectural services for a project, someone must decide on a strategy to complete the project in a timely fashion, within the client’s budget for the building, and within the architect’s budget for providing services.

That strategy is often recorded, using charts, tables, and graphs to assign, record, and compare the actual versus planned time, needed to complete required project tasks.

The people involved are central to the creation and success of such a plan. That may involve as many as a project manager, consultants, architectural staff, a client representative, and maybe even contractors involved in design. The larger and more complex the project, the more involved such a plan becomes.

This course covers the basics in creating such a work plan.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

  • Explain how project delivery methods affect architectural work flow
  • Define the role of a project manager in directing the remaining team members
  • Examine considerations in selecting consultants for an architectural project
  • Discuss steps involved in completing an architectural project in-house
  • Assess various charting methods used to schedule and track in-house tasks for a project
  • Identify procedures useful for conducting productive project meetings
