Florida Professional Engineer Continuing Education Requirements
Florida Continuing Education Requirements
- All Professional Engineers licensed in Florida are required to obtain a total of 18 continuing education (CE) course hours every two years in order to renew their licenses.
- Pursuant to Rule 61G15-22.001(3), Florida Administrative Code, PEs must complete a course on the eighth edition which goes into effect Dec. 31, 2023, and provide the Board with a certificate of completion. Certificates can be emailed to FBPE at cedesk@fbpe.org.
However, PEs whose work involves the design of elements of structures and systems covered by the Florida Building Code must take an advanced building code course before submitting final engineering documents to building departments or other agencies having jurisdiction.
For more information, visit the FBPE Executive Director's message on the FBPE.org Web site. - Of the 18 hours, one hour must relate to the Florida laws and rules of Professional Engineers and one hour must relate to Florida professional ethics, both from a Board-approved provider. Four hours must relate to area of practice. The remaining 12 hours may be related to any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The reporting rules for Florida Engineers have changed
In the past, FL Engineers and CE Providers(such as PacePDH.com), were not required to submit course completions or certificates to the FBPE. Once engineers had completed the required CE hours, they would simply attest to having completed their continuing education by checking a box as part of the renewal application process.
The Florida Board of Professional Engineers would then randomly audit PEs to confirm completion of their continuing education requirements. However, after two renewal periods during which too many PEs were failing the audit, Florida statutes now require that PEs must report their certificates.
As the Florida Laws and Rules course can only be offered by Board-approved providers like PacePDH, we will report your completed Laws and Rules course to the FBPE.
Florida engineers will now be required to provide ALL OTHER continuing-education documentation via the NCEES CPC Tracking system. Instructions for using NCEES CPC Tracking are available for PEs on the FBPE website(see links below). In other words, Florida PE’s must now self-report the remaining 17 hours of CE courses themselves using the NCEES CPC Tracking system.
