This one hour module introduces door frames. A door frame was developed to assure the door was held plumb and level as well as aligned properly within the wall. As technology and expertise progressed, the door frame evolved to include ornate designs and structural integrity to support multiple doors and doors combined with windows. Specifications were developed to standardize door sizes and door frame openings. The module covers issues regarding the manufacture of door frames, how sizes are determined, the materials used, shipping, and distribution issues. You will learn that frames differ in design, and are classified based on the type of wall in the building.
At the conclusion of this module you will be able to identify the functions; manufacture; materials; construction; and storage of door frames. You will also have an understanding of the installation and maintenance of exterior door frames. Additionally, you will learn about interior door frames including; rough opening sizes; materials; construction; and door frame classifications.
