Course Description


This one hour course introduces door frames. A door frame was developed to assure the door was held plumb and level as well as aligned properly within the wall. As technology and expertise progressed, the door frame evolved to include ornate designs and structural integrity to support multiple doors and doors combined with windows. Specifications were developed to standardize door sizes and door frame openings. The course covers issues regarding the manufacture of door frames, how sizes are determined, the materials used, shipping, and distribution issues. You will learn that frames differ in design, and are classified based on the type of wall in the building.



Course Objectives


Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • identify the functions of door frames
  • describe the manufacture; materials; construction; and storage of door frames
  • understand the installation and maintenance of exterior door frames
  • differentiate interior door frames including; rough opening sizes; materials; and their construction
  • discuss door frame classifications
