As the country's baby boomers reach their senior years and as longevity increases, there will be a surge of seniors. Projections from the US Census Bureau predict 2030 as a milestone year when older people will actually outnumber children for the first time in history.

How design efforts will address this "aging tsunami" is a topic of popular and critical concern. Our "Generational Design" courses will be of interest to architects addressing the needs of an aging population.

According to Sheila Weinstein in Psychology Today, the term Silver Tsunami was coined in reference to a statistic that claims the number of people over 65 is expected to increase from 40 million in 2010 to 55 million in 2020.
