Minnesota Board of Engineering - Renewal
Licensees and certificate holders are required to have 24 PDHs, including 2 hours in ethics, by June 30 of even numbered years in order to renew their license or certificate. The ethics hours must have been earned during the biennium to which they are applied and shall not be used toward carryover.
The Board does not pre-approve any courses, activities, or vendors. It is the responsibility of each licensee or certificate holder to use their best professional judgment by reading and utilizing the statutory requirements to determine whether an activity meets the continuing education requirements.
Report the total number of hours on your renewal form – either online or paper. Keep a personal file of supporting documents. Examples of what you should keep in your personal file include: certificates, agendas, handouts, invitations, copies of receipts for payments of fees, etc. This information may be requested in an audit. Please do not send any supporting documentation to the Board until it is requested.
Records and supporting documentation need to be kept for a period of four years after submission to the Board.
Continuing education requirements may be met without completing the entire renewal form if an individual is licensed or certified in another state, province, or district which is listed by the Minnesota board as having continuing education requirements acceptable to the Minnesota board and the licensee or certificate holder certifies in the appropriate section that all continuing education and licensing or certification requirements for that state, province, or district have been met.
