This one hour interactive distance-learning course is designed to introduce the participant to the Department of Energy’s Buildings Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs (BTS) Advanced Wall Framing - Buildings for the 21st Century. Advanced house framing, sometimes called Optimum Value Engineering (OVE), refers to a variety of techniques designed to reduce the amount of lumber used and waste generated in the construction of a wood-framed house. These techniques also improve a home's energy efficiency.
In the next hour we’ll review how advanced framing actually replaces lumber with insulation material and maximizes the wall that's insulated, which improves the whole-wall thermal resistance or R-value.
Upon completion of this course, participants will have a general understanding of:
• Why advanced framing techniques have a place in today’s world
• What these techniques incorporate
• How building occupants benefit
• The importance of using less material for the future
Ms. Prinse holds a BS Degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and has pursued master degree studies in Aquatic Zoology at the University of South Florida. She has written scientific portions of impact statements for wetland/upland land delineation, endangered species studies, and water quality testing while employed with a civil engineering and architectural firm in Tampa, FL. Her experience in environmental studies and new construction lend itself to documentary film making, particularly environmental stories that have taken her to the Amazon in Peru and to Costa Rica. Most recently her involvement with earthen construction projects led to a video production showcasing the benefits of building “green.”
