This one-hour interactive distance-learning course was designed to present the Florida Building Inspector with EPA’s information about how to build a Radon Free House. The course teaches the student a handful of simple building practices and common materials that can effectively lower the radon level in houses. At the conclusion of this course the contractor must successfully complete a written examination to receive credit for this course.

Number of Classroom Hours: 1 (one) hour

This course contains at least one hour of Business Practices (BSP)

At the conclusion of this distance learning course the design professional would have learned the following:

  • What is Radon?
  • How dose Radon enters a house?
  • Does the foundation type affect Radon entry?
  • Should all new houses be built Radon resistant?
  • Determine what type of system to install.
  • Determine vent pipe location and size.
  • System installation
  • System activation


Instructor Bio


Bonnie PrinseBonnie Prinse

Ms. Prinse holds a BS Degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and has pursued master degree studies in Aquatic Zoology at the University of South Florida. She has written scientific portions of impact statements for wetland/upland land delineation, endangered species studies, and water quality testing while employed with a civil engineering and architectural firm in Tampa, FL. Her experience in environmental studies and new construction lend itself to documentary film making, particularly environmental stories that have taken her to the Amazon in Peru and to Costa Rica. Most recently her involvement with earthen construction projects led to a video production showcasing the benefits of building “green.”
