Course Description


Florida Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board (ECLB) - Approval # 0800782

This course on false alarm prevention is designed to give Florida electrical contractor students practical knowledge on the cause and prevention of burglar and fire false alarms. After a brief summary of alarm systems and false alarms, the student will learn what possible solutions are out there. Detailed information on the causes and prevention of false alarms will be given with attention given to the role of alarm system, equipment, testing and proper training for both installer and user alike.

 



Course Objectives


Upon successful completion of this course, electrical contractor students will:

  • Understand the causes and consequences of false alarms
  • Differentiate between false alarms and false dispatch
  • Recognize equipment concerns that can lead to false alarms and steps that can be taken to prevent them
  • Discuss the role of proper equipment testing and training in false alarm prevention
  • Describe best practices in upgrading alarm equipment
  • Explain how false alarms can cause serious human and financial costs


Instructor Bio


Bonnie PrinseBonnie Prinse

Ms. Prinse holds a BS Degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and has pursued master degree studies in Aquatic Zoology at the University of South Florida. She has written scientific portions of impact statements for wetland/upland land delineation, endangered species studies, and water quality testing while employed with a civil engineering and architectural firm in Tampa, FL. Her experience in environmental studies and new construction lend itself to documentary film making, particularly environmental stories that have taken her to the Amazon in Peru and to Costa Rica. Most recently her involvement with earthen construction projects led to a video production showcasing the benefits of building “green.”
