Course Description

Florida CILB Course Approval Number: 0609418

In this one hour module we will discussed the millwork components that make up a staircase. Stairwork includes the balustrade (or parts which make up the hand rail system including newels, balusters, fittings, and rails), the stair body (or parts that make up the steps to include treads, risers, and stringers), and decorative items. The location of the stairs, the architectural design, the overall height from floor to ceiling, and the type of stairs, are all important to the selection of stairwork. It is important to understand the terms used to define stair work items, the types of stairs, how stairs are constructed, and how building regulations affect the design and construction of stairs.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this module you will be able to identify stair styles and stair layouts, you will become familiar with stair styling  and the planning of a stairway.
