Louisiana Continuing Education Requirements

Louisiana Title 46, Part LXI Chapter 31.3105 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirements

  1. Louisiana follows a biennial renewal cycle, ending in March or September according to your assigned renewal cycle.
  2. During each biennial licensure renewal period every professional engineer licensee, including those licensed in two or more disciplines, is required to obtain 15 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) per calendar year in engineering related activities. Professional engineer licensees may not obtain more than 8 PDHs within a single calendar day.
  3. During each biennial licensure renewal period at least one of the PDHs per calendar year shall be earned in professional ethics.
  4. During each biennial licensure renewal period at least four of the PDHs per calendar year shall be earned in Life Safety Code, building codes and/or Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines by every professional engineer who designs buildings and/or building systems in Louisiana during such calendar year.

  1. All licensure renewals will require the completion and submission of a biennial licensure renewal form. By completing and submitting this form, the licensee is certifying that he/she has met all requirements for licensure renewal, including CPD requirements.
  2. All licensees are required to maintain a board-approved professional development activity log outlining all PDHs claimed during a calendar year.
  3. Maintaining records to be used to support PDHs claimed is the responsibility of the licensee, these records must be maintained for at least six consecutive calendar years and copies may be requested by the board at any time.
