Florida Professional Engineer Continuing Education Requirements for the 2019 Renewal
Information regarding the requirements can be found in the Rule 61G15-22.001.
Please be advised that effective March 1, 2015 all professional engineers licensed in Florida will be required to obtain a total of eighteen (18) continuing education (CE) course hours in order to renew their licenses. These requirements are officially in effect for the 2017-2019 biennial renewal. Of the 18 hours, one (1) hour must be related to the Florida laws and rules of professional engineers, one (1) hour must relate to Florida professional ethics, and four (4) hours of area of practice. The remaining 12 hours may be related to any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering.
Continuing education hours may be earned by presenting or attending seminars, in-house or non-classroom courses, workshops, or professional or technical presentations made at meetings, webinars, conventions, or conferences, including those presented by vendors with specific knowledge related to the licensee’s area of practice. Up to four (4) hours of the continuing education course hours may be obtained by serving as an officer for a Board-recognized professional or technical engineering society. The required hours relating to law, rules and ethics may also be earned by a PE serving as a member of the Legislature or as an elected state or local official.
Florida Advanced Building Code Requirement
For licensees whose practice includes the design of engineering works or systems in connection with buildings, structures, or facilities and systems covered by the Florida Building Code, a course designated as "Advanced" by the Florida Building Commission and approved by the FBPE must be completed within 12 months of the effective date of each edition of the Florida Building Code. Therefore you will need to complete at least a one hour advanced building code course by December 31, 2018 in order to retain the "Special Qualifications" designation on your licensure record, pursuant to Florida Statute 471.0195.
Upon completion of the course you also will need to provide the Board with a copy of your PacePDH completion certificate. Certificates can be emailed to FBPE at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. When submitting your certificate to the Board please include your full name and license number in the email.
